‘Your Health Begins Before Birth’ Programme

Women’s health

Prevention and lifestyle are always key when it comes to health, but when it comes to preparing for a future pregnancy, they are absolutely crucial. No preventive care is more complete, beneficial or effective than that provided by the gynaecologist overseeing the preconception stage, duly accompanied by health professionals to guarantee comprehensive care for the mother-to-be.

This programme looks to attend to all women’s health and wellness needs in the prenatal period.

The goals of this programme are to:

  • Know the woman’s health status prior to pregnancy.
  • Assess reproductive risk, including screening for inherited diseases in order to refer for genetic counselling with a specialist consultant.
  • Assess fertility status (ovarian reserve, hormone optimisation).
  • Report on protective measures for foetal health, such as exposure to toxins, drugs and chemicals, or radiological examinations in the critical period.
  • Initiate measures to prevent neural tube defects (NTD) and assess nutritional deficits requiring supplementation.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles in women and their partners before conception: rest habits, physical exercise, nutritional education, care of physical appearance.
