  • General Information

    Dr. Alfredo Castillo specialised in Ophthalmology at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, Complutense University of Madrid and completed his training at various centers across the USA.

    After completing his speciality, he began his clinical work in corneal pathology and ocular immunology.

    In 1994, he started working in the first center specialising in excimer laser techniques for the correction of refractive errors, accumulating a great deal of clinical experience to date and publishing numerous scientific papers and presentations.

    In 1997 he joined the Glaucoma Unit of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid, carrying out a wide range of medical and surgical work and research activities.

    Dr. Alfredo Castillo’s medical and surgical work mainly includes: Refractive Surgery with laser and intraocular lenses (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism), Presbyopia Surgery (laser and lenses), Cataract Surgery and Corneal Surgery (corneal transplants, rings for keratoconus, pterygium...). He also specialises in early detection and Glaucoma Surgery (laser, trabeculectomy, valve implants...).

    • 1990: Certificate from the EDUCATIONAL COMMISSION FOR FOREIGN MEDICAL GRADUATES (ECFMG) OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (Number 0-450-180-5 1994): Doctoral Thesis obtaining the qualification of "Unanimous Outstanding Cum Laude" from the Complutense University of Madrid.

    • 1997: First Prize for the best paper in the category of Refractive Surgery at the Symposium on Cataract, IOL and Refractive Surgery of American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). Boston (USA)
    • 1998: First Prize for the scientific video in the category of Refractive Surgery at the International Society or Refractive Surgery (ISRS). New Orleans (USA).
    • Since 2004: Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Complutense University of Madrid.
